Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Andrew Cancel, also known as Mavi NYC is an emerging artist on the Hip hop music scene. He comes from a Hispanic background and he is influenced by Hispanic Hip Hop legends such as Fat Joe and Big Pun to name a few. Growing up as a child, music played a big role in his life. As he got older he began to pursue a music career of his own at the prodding of his deceased Grandfather.
At the beginning of his career as a musician, he began taking his life experiences of a young man in Brooklyn and turned them into songs. Music became something of a way release his stress from the day to day life. Shortly thereafter, he started performing these songs at local venues and colleges. On one specific occasion, he performed for Wyclef Jean at BMCC college in NYC and got a lot of positive feed back from him. As his music career was on the rise, he was featured on BET's 106 and Park's MC Battles. The battle did not go as he hoped, so he realized that battle raping was not for him. He then took a break from the music scene but he continued to have a passion for song writing and performing. After a period of time, he found his place in music once again writing new songs based on life experiences.
With new tracks, collaborations and material he came back into the music scene and released a single "Over Again" in 2012 followed by "Love it or Leave it" now available on iTunes. His new focus is on writing meaningful songs with messages that a wide range of people, young and old can enjoy. His music has inspired his peers and the children look up to him In his old neighborhood. Mavi NYC is known for his lyrical content and his catchy choruses. In 2013, he became a member ASCAP Music Society and is now recognized as a music composer.
Currently, Mavi NYC is working his latest project entitled: M.A.V.I.: Make All Ventures Incredible and plans on performing his songs at different venues in NYC. in conclusion, Mavi NYC plans on using his past music experiences to create new music and inspire the work.
