WELL IT'S STILL COLLEGE

Used to be the way that Community Colleges were described in some circles, in past years. The Plan B connotation- a fall back plan. Slightly undervalued and not so willfully accepted as a wholesome education. Gone are the days when attending a Community College meant you probably failed at attempting to cement your way in to a 4 year.

Presently enrollment is up at Community Colleges, and is said to be a representation of the overwhelming idea of supply and demand (does not this ideology seem to dominate everything). With the economy in the shape that it has been over the past lets say 5 years or so- economics becomes an element in everything you do as a person, and bargains are becoming the way to go. Insert- Community College- an affordable means to higher education. with its concentration on job readiness through training offered, by way of the many technical programs that Community Colleges have been famous for. In essence, Community Colleges have become seen as more of a sure bet to finding employment as the emphasis is more so on aspecialized education, than the liberal- course load people seem to find at the majors.

Cause then Effect- Community College enrollment is up, and more classes have to be offered. One school- Bunker Hill community has taken to offering graveyeard shift courses, with a writing and psych session meeting from 11:45- 2 a.m.
With the resurgence of the Community College sector has come federal acknowledgment in some cases, similar to title III grants bestowed up SUNY Rockland Community; grants that are designed to focus on low-income and minority enrollment efforts.
With the money the school will be able to pledge 1.8M over the next 5 years to increase support services and online opportunities for its students.

In a nutshell, its not always reputation that should determine college choices, sometimes its a numbers game- and in our day and time, a reality check: which institution or form (four year or two) will put you on the fast track to employment.
