One of the most important elements of RAP is the competitive exchange labeled as "beef". Not to be confused with conflict on a personal note. At its best, beef arises between artists whom are at the top of the games. For historical references you can look into such classic battles as Roxanne Shonte vs Boogie Down Productions, Kool Moe Dee vs LL COOL J, LL Cool J vs Cannibus, Jay- Z vs Nas, 50 Cent vs Ja Rule just to name a few. These lyrical exercises display witty exchanges in a manner aimed at dissing your opponent and creating a buzz which leads to the all- important record sales.
Rap Beef is a lost art. Now a days you got a bunch of subliminals, nothing to hang your hat on. The most recent ones of any relevance would have to be The Lox vs 50 Cent, Rick Ross vs 50 Cent The Game vs 50 Cent (see a pattern here) As I said when utilized correctly beefing transfers into the almight dollar signs, and 50 Cent is the master at that. For the past couple of years there has been a tremendous elephant in the room which never has been fully addressed: Who is the supreme Mr.Carter?
Could it be the self-proclaimed "Best Rapper Alive" b.k.a Weezy F Baby, or "The Michael Jordan of Rap" Jay Z? If by chance you have been on Mars in the past month or so and missed the obvious:
"I’m like really half a billi n-gga
Really you got baby money
Keep it real with n-ggas
N-ggas aint got my lady money"( Kanye West feat Jay-Z- H.A.M)
There is no doubt about who that was aimed at, nor a doubt as to the response from Weezy:
"All I do is win, my name should be “Victor”
Old-ass rappers, I’m still the shit, old-ass Pampers" (Nicki Minaj feat Lil Wayne- Roman's Revenge 2.0)
I'll give you a second to let that digest, in case you wanted to refute the claim. Well recently Lil Wayne did an MTV spot with Sway and addressed his opinion on the comment from Hov..check it out:
Lil Wayne is far from ignorant and every opportunity he gets he reminds you. Money is not the kind of conversation that people who have it, have; Furthermore, only a less than tactful person enters a fixed fight that is not in their favor. Take notes.
